Launching of Project CICADA

June 10, 2024

Launching of Project CICADA (Center for Inclusive Communities and Development Advocacy) at the Lyceum of the Philippines University and 5th International Conversations on Indigenous Peoples and Social Inclusion

Theme: Conversations on Contemporary Hunter-gatherers: Worldviews and Adaptations in a Changing World

Responding to the SDG’s banner goal of “leaving no one behind,” CICADA is established to ensure that a more inclusive society where individuals, regardless of their background or characteristics, have equal opportunities to participate and benefit  from development initiatives. Having said this, it behooves upon institutions to bond together and with the resources of their
faith promote a collective effort to solidify their energies, discover ways and means in fostering measures to improve lives.
CICADA endeavors to advocate with others the awareness needed to address concerns, more specifically the environment, of vulnerable and marginalized groups such as indigenous peoples (IPs), hunter- gatherers, (HGs), persons with disabilities, women and youth, and the urban poor having them as active participants to promote their welfare. To begin with, CICADA welcomes individuals and groups who share our values to collaborate with our partner contemporary hunter-gatherers and Indigenous Peoples. Together, we aim to address the issues and concerns that affect them and propose necessary actions to help them achieve a better quality of life. Our focus includes both the broader Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the specific goals on environment that are relevant to the interests of our partner HGs. Furthermore, this collaborative effort aims to dispel any misunderstandings that outsiders may have about these marginalized groups.
