Partner Organizations

The International Society for Hunter Gatherer Research (ISHGR) is the parent organisation of HG-Edu, which was established as an Research and Advocacy Group under their umbrella in 2018 at CHAGS 12 in Malaysia. ISHGR is the first ever formal network for scholars specialising in hunter-gatherer studies. The network is a legacy of the 10th Conferences on Hunting and Gathering Societies (CHAGS 10). One of the primary goals of the network is to oversee the continuity of CHAGS, and to provide a platform for researchers and activists working with hunter-gatherer communities.

Partner organizations

The African School of Storytelling (AFRISOS) is a non-governmental organization founded in 2020 and based in Arusha, Tanzania. They are committed to preserving Africa’s rich natural and cultural heritage through community-driven storytelling. The organization builds strong relationships with indigenous communities to access deeply rooted stories and traditions. They give the communities the tools and training in order to make films, enabling them to tell and share their own stories.

CICADA (Center for Inclusive Communities and Development Advocacy) is a network launched in 2024 at Lyceum of the Philippines University to support Indigenous Peoples and other marginalized groups. It promotes inclusive development by addressing environmental and social issues while amplifying community voices and perspectives. CICADA also fosters international collaboration and dialogue on Indigenous worldviews, adaptation, and social inclusion.

The Global-Hub on Indigenous Peoples’ food systems is an innovative thinktank that pioneers new ways to create knowledge by giving the same level of respect to academic and Indigenous Peoples’ knowledge. The Global-Hub brings together Indigenous and non-Indigenous experts from universities, research centres, Indigenous Peoples and UN agencies around the world to Bridge knowledge gaps on Indigenous Peoples’ food and knowledge systems and to Provide evidence-based information to policy discussions that affect Indigenous Peoples’ food and knowledge systems.

OrigiNations is a non-profit organization which accompanies Indigenous Peoples and local communities in their efforts to become effective protagonists in the protection and promotion of their natural and cultural heritage and in the defense of their rights. Through immersion workshops, excursions, and practical projects, youth and elders find a space that allows them to debate issues of concern to their communities and develop strategies to tackle the challenges that confront them. In the process, they discover their own talents and learn to appreciate the achievements of their ancestors. The resulting pride and cultural self-esteem are the bedrock on which their commitment and future endeavors rest.

Sokola Institute is the first nonprofit organization in Indonesia which focuses on education for Indigenous Peoples and other marginal groups in Indonesia. Operating across 11 provinces in Indonesia, Sokola delivers education that respects and integrates the cultural and linguistic backgrounds of the communities it serves. The institute has successfully benefited over 15,000 children and adults, with a strong emphasis on empowering local youth to become educators and advocates for their communities. Sokola continues to advocate for education as a fundamental right and a tool for empowering marginalized communities, ensuring they have the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate and thrive in a rapidly changing world.
